Homemade Chinese Duck Sauce Recipe

Did You Know? Duck Sauce was create din the United States. It was originally created as a sauce for pressed duck. Gradually, it came in use for a wide variety of foods, including chicken, pork, egg rolls and wantons.

We have provided two Chinese Duck Sauce recipes below. There are many variations you can try. Most recipes call for a little "zip" in the sauce, including either chili sauce or a hot pepper. Don't hesitate to add or subtract ingredients to these basic recipes below.

Duck Sauce Recipe #1 - It's quick and easy.

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup orange marmalade
• 1/2 cup apricot preserves
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon chili sauce
• 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
• 2 teaspoons grated lemon rind

Preparation:

• Process all ingredients in a blender or food processor.
• Refrigerate any leftover.

Duck Sauce Recipe #2

Ingredients:

• 1/2 lb plums, pitted , chopped
• 6 oz dried apricots, chopped
• 1 cup apple juice
• 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
• 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
• 2 teaspoons soy sauce
• 1 teaspoon grated ginger
• 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
• 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Preparation:

• Place all ingredients in a sauce pan.
• Bring to a boil over medium heat.
• Stir occasionally.
• Reduce to a simmer and let cook until fruit is completely softened and sauce thickens, about 30 minutes.
• Allow to col a little.
• Puree in a blender, until smooth.
• Refrigerate any leftovers.
